Céline Masson invites us to explore the nuances of feminine beauty under the Thai sun of Phuket where she resides. Its exhibition, “Shadows and Faces of Asia”, invites us to reflect on Asian femininity of yesterday and today. Each painting immerses us in a subtle play between shadow and light, revealing the true essence of beauty. Céline celebrates femininity beyond cultural expectations, her female faces are paintings carrying multiple meanings. Before being painted, each canvas is first covered with original and old manga, weaving a story in the background. The selected manga collages exhibit often caricatured male representations conveying images tinged with machismo. These images, sometimes exaggerated and simplistic, reinforce ideals of masculine strength, often at the expense of human sensitivity and complexity.

Thus, in Céline Masson’s exhibition, these two elements confront each other. This visual confrontation invites us to reflect on gender norms, on the way in which they are constructed and perpetuated, and on the implications they have on self-perception and interpersonal relationships. Through her art, Céline guides an authentic exploration, deploying a symphony of colors.
